Shanghai in the 1930s: “lust, women, style, dimmed lights, sensual music, and erotica”. Sounds damn good to us, but with time travel still in the pipeline (someone chivvy that along please) why not swing by Spiler Shanghai in Budapest for an atmospheric facsimile? That alluring description of the Chinese city comes from Roy Zsidai, the Hungarian entrepreneur who wowed us with his first Spiler venue and has done the same with this Asian sequel.

Memorable Meals from Literature

Designer and writer Dinah Fried has created the most immaculate and inspired gastronomic flat lays. Some literary descriptions of food made such a strong impression on her that she decided to recreate and photograph them—a total of 49 photographs have been created by Fried. From Moby Dick to The Great Gatsby, and even Alice in Wonderland, Dinah has laid out some seriously iconic tables to photograph.

245forest is a Berlin-based creative studio with a highly curated Tumblr showcasing it’s surreal and sublime pieces of work. Pierre Debusschere, the brain behind the studio takes inspiration from every corner of art and history, and their depth of understanding and vision is visible in the work. These are some grossly exceptional and highly emotive edits.

LA’s Contemporary Art Scene

Flocks of Coachella go-ers are LA bound, either to fly out or kick on. In the interests of ensuring these revellers remain well entertained, and concurrently inspired by their western migration, I’ve uploaded contemporary artist Patrick Martinez‘s Comprehensive Guide to LA, originally penned for Pedestriantv.com

Drawing inspo from street culture, his diet of ’90s hip hop and the neon signage around East LA, contemporary artist Martinez uses both his teenage graffiti skills and traditional painting techniques to bring beauty to things that aren’t considered conventionally beautiful. From neon signs that say “Thinking of a Master Plan” and “Pawn Your Dream for a 9-5” to reworking the ZX Flux by Adidas, Patrick’s work speak to an audience that grew up with street culture in their veins.

The Monarch Room : NYC

West Chelsea NYC is home to a brand new luxury dining experience. New York hospitality innovators Eric Marx and Lisle Richards of The Metric Group recently unveiled their first restaurant endeavour called The Monarch Room. In collaboration with interior design firm Roman and Williams, a 1930’s industrial era warehouse in West 15th Street has been transformed into a sophisticated Fresh Market American restaurant with Chef Michael Citarella at the helm.
